NVQ Qualified
Retraining and getting my NVQ qualifications was the best thing I ever did. Two years ago, I was unhappy in my job, not really getting anything out of it except a low salary. Uninspired, bored, like there was no point to anything, like I was wasting away. I started using the internet when my son asked to get it installed, and he was really excited, showing me how it worked – he learnt at school.
It was like a revelation, seeing how many opportunities there were out there and realising I didn’t have to be stuck in the same boring routine day in day out if I made up my mind to do so something about it. Obviously, changing jobs and careers is hard, but using vocational qualifications to do it in baby steps was the best thing for me. I studied for my NVQ part time, so I could still work. I thought I would never have the time for it being a single parent, but City & Guilds let you complete your NVQ according to your own schedule, removing the stress of having a time frame, which meant I could relax and enjoy it. It also gave me the confidence to start thinking about how to change careers, and put me in the midst of many others who were doing the same.
