A Unique Approach to Slum Education

Education for Slum Childrenin any part of the world is not usually a walk in the park, because slum children, unlike children from well off homes, normally work when still in school so that they may be able to supplement the family income.

It is for this reason, that any Educational NGO in Indiamust not simply use common approaches in the provision of quality education for children in slum areas. Unique approaches must be used so that kids in school may be enticed to stay there, and those of school may be attracted to join a school.

One unique way that most NGOs use is the provision of night schools and mobile schools. These are learning approaches that have been tailored to suit children who have to work and learn at the same time- slum children.

Another unique approach is the use of free meal distribution to children who attend classes. This approach normally works well with young kids who cannot be sent off to work; the parents in an effort to cut on food costs send them to school since a free meal will be provided.

Lastly, another unique approach used to ensure that quality education for slum children is provided is the use of vocational training. These training centers are meant to attract children to classes, so that those uninterested in class work may gain vocational training instead. Training may be on wood work, metal work or plumbing.

Slum Children, just like other children, should not be denied a chance at a bright future, and this is one of the major factors that push NGOs to provide their services to the disadvantaged in communities all over the world.
